Program Overview:
Edwin's Healthcare Institute's (EHI) Vocational Nursing (VN) Program is designed to train and develop a graduate who is educationally prepared to provide safe and compassionate patient-centered care within the established legal, ethical and professional standards in long term facilities, and hospitals. This preparation provides the graduate with the skills necessary to function in a structured health care setting as a member of the multi-disciplinary team utilizing the nursing process and sound clinical reasoning when providing care as an entry level vocational nurse.

Admission Process:
Interested applicants initially meet with an Admissions Representative. An overview of the VN program with opportunity for questions is provided. Questions may be answered by the admissions representative or, at times, nursing faculty. A tour of the campus, nursing lab and classroom is conducted.
EHI does not accept credit for previous education. One-hundred percent of academic credits must be earned at the EHI Vocational Nursing Program.

Admission Criteria:
The final decision for admission into EHI’s VN Program will be based on the following listed criteria:
You will be notified about your acceptance in E-MAIL typically within 4 weeks of your assessment.
- TEAS Exam Score
- A minimum overall score of 60% based on all four subject areas: Reading, Math, English and Language Usage and Science are required for qualification, with the following minimum percentages (%) in Reading (60%) and Math (60%). The overall score can only be attained through testing all four areas in one sitting, OR
- A minimum overall individual score of 58% is calculated on the ATI TEAS test score.

The overall score can only be attained through testing all four areas in one sitting, OR
- In-Person Interview with the Admission Committee
- EHI Administered Admission Test
- Minimum of Two References

- Previous Certifications, Degrees, and Diplomas. (Foreign diplomas will not be considered until an official evaluation of the document determines it to be equivalent to a United States diploma).

Program Eligibility Requirements:
Prospective students must have completed all of the following admission requirements before being admitted in the VN program:
If there are more qualified applicants than the number of seats available in a class, students be selected according to the highest total score on the TEAS exam.
The student is responsible for all the expenses associated with the background clearance, fingerprinting, drug screen, health clearance, immunizations, and/or titers, and personal health insurance. Certifications and clearances must be maintained throughout the term of the student's enrollment.
- Must be a high school graduate or obtained a GED, be at least 17 years of age.
- Proof of U.S. citizenship, alien status, or legal residency.
- The Texas Board of Nursing (TBON) requires a Criminal Background Check (CBC) on all students planning admission to a nursing program. The school requirements for admission include having a clear CBC and findings of eligibility by TBON to sit for the NCLEX exam.
- EHI will not admit any student to the nursing program that does not have a clear CBC as determined by TBON. Students shall complete the eligibility process prior to admission.
- Negative drug screen (including alcohol) within 60 days prior to Day 1 of start date.
- Proof of immunity to certain diseases through immunization titers(If the tither results do not verify proof immunity, the student must be immunized for the disease.):
- Measles, Mumps & Rubella (MMR)
- Varicella (Chicken Pox)
- Hepatitis B (Hep B, HBV)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis (TDAP, Adacel)
- Meningitis
- Influenza
- If the tither results do not verify proof immunity, the student must be immunized for the disease.
- Tuberculin Skin Test (2-step PPD) or negative chest X-ray report if positive PPD within 60 days prior to Day 1 of start date.
- Evidence of health insurance coverage or other proof of medical benefits.
- Statement of Health Clearance from a health care provider conducted within 60 days prior to Day 1 of start date.
- Current American Heart Association CPR Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers card.
- Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI) Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS), minimum total score in the "proficient" or higher range.
- Maximum of three (3) attempts to achieve minimum required score is permitted in a 12-month period.
- 15 days are required between retesting attempts.
- Required scores must be achieved within 36 months prior to Day 1 of start date.
